About Trelya

Trelya tackles the structural inequalities and barriers which fuel cycles of deprivation head on. We aim to equip children and families with the skills and resources they need to break free and build positive, happy, healthy and fulfilling futures.

We aim to ensure that children and families have fair and equal access to health, education, food, warmth and safety. We persevere, and together, no matter what, we get there.

With over 20 years of grassroots experience, Trelya ensures that children and families have fair access to health, education, food, warmth, and safety. Its specialist nursery has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED, the organisation has earned a Gold rating from the Home Office, and its adult skills development programme has successfully helped break the cycle of intergenerational long-term unemployment.

What was their goal?

As part of their commitment to sustainability and reducing operational costs, Trelya undertook an upgrade of their ageing solar system, which had recently deteriorated and was only partially operational. By incorporating modern solar panels and battery storage, the charity not only ensured a reliable, renewable energy supply but also gained greater control over energy usage and purchasing. This upgrade supports Trelya’s broader mission to invest in facilities that enhance the well-being of children, families, and the wider community, while demonstrating a commitment to environmentally responsible practices.

How did we help?

We delivered a 27 kW on‑roof solar PV installation, carefully removing the existing system without disrupting the daily operation of the centre. Value engineering of the original design allowed us to provide a higher-capacity storage solution within the same budget. The PV system is complemented by two Tesla Powerwall AC batteries, offering up to 27 kWh of storage and a peak AC output of 10 kW to the building and EV chargers. ZLC Energy was selected for the project following a quality-led competitive tendering process managed by Cornwall Council.
