Cornwall Airport Newquay is the commercial airport serving Cornwall, with both domestic and European flights. It is also one of four UK Spaceports, providing a base for space launches. Virgin Orbit trials were underway on the adjacent runway while we installed the system.

What was their goal?

We are committed to significantly reducing emissions from our ground operations and will actively support our airline partners in their efforts to reduce aviation-related emissions.

The airport is run by Cornwall Council, and the system is part of their 2030 Decarbonisation plan, providing a prominent example of carbon-cutting action.

How did we help?

We designed & delivered a ground-mounted array located on the airfield to meet the client’s brief whilst also complying with the strict security, safety, glint, and glare criteria associated with the airfield. The location was not suitable for piled foundations for the ground mount system, so we worked with our frame partner, Solarports, and detailed a ballasted solution instead. All works were completed on time, within budget, to specification and without any unplanned disruption to the airfield.
