Merchants Manor is a 4 Star Hotel in Falmouth. The hotel offers luxury accommodation, a restaurant and spa/health centre facilities to guests and members. Merchants Manor also hosts conferences and weddings. The facility operates 24 hours, 7 days a week and has a constant high occupancy, so seasonal variations in energy use are primarily associated with the demand for space heating in the winter months.

What was their goal?

The hotel was facing an electricity price increase of 20%, whereas gas prices were stable and much lower. The business was looking for ways to reduce electricity costs and invest capital to offset revenue losses. At the same time, old boilers in one of the plant rooms were failing, and the owners were looking to rationalise multiple plant rooms into one whilst replacing the boilers.

ZLC Energy were contracted to investigate the current heating systemand propose a solution. We recommended and installed a heat mainthrough the hotel linking the plant rooms and rationalised the boilersinto one plant room with new boilers and a CHP unit.
