About Mable Community Primary School

Mabe School has a reputation for providing a safe environment where children are recognised and encouraged to develop their individual personalities, talents, and potential. With an active Eco-Council and parent support, they were keen to improve their environmental credentials and educate their pupils environmentally.

What was their goal?

The school sought to reduce its operating costs, with the additional benefit of providing an eco-educational resource that would enhance the curriculum and reflect the input of the pupil eco-council. In addition, they wanted to provide an income stream to invest in the children’s education.

How did we help?

We undertook an energy appraisal of the site and created a prioritised investment plan. The school had joined the Solar Schools project, with a fundraising target of £10,000. At the start of the project, the school had an existing quote for a 4KWh PV system. When we surveyed the school, the cost of PV had fallen dramatically, and we were able to offer 10 kW for a little above their £10,000 target. The school rose to the challenge of increasing its target and successfully installed an extra 6kWh, providing it with additional free energy and a more competitive return on investment.
