About East Hampshire District Council
The Council is a unitary authority responsible for all local services, including transport, social care, and education in East Hampshire. As Britain’s Ocean City, it aims to be one of Europe’s most vibrant waterfront cities, where an outstanding quality of life is enjoyed by everyone. One of the city’s priorities is to be a“green, sustainable city that cares about the environment”. The Council already has wellover 1 MWp of solar PV on its buildings.
What was their goal?
As part of the move to their new offices, the council wanted to include energy efficiency, operating cost reduction, and sustainability as part of their new home, with some future-proofing built in. This aligns with the County Council’s Climate Change, Environment Strategy and Action Plan.
How did we help?
We delivered a 156kW on-roof Solar PV installation across all 4 sides of the hipped roof. Value engineering of the tendered design allowed us to get more out of the same space at a lower cost. The PV system is complemented by 9 Tesla Powerwall AC batteries, with up to 121kWh of storage capacity and a peak AC output of 45kW. Along with 6 EV charge points—providing 44kW of charging capacity on site. We also constructed the external plant compound to house the inverters, batteries, electrical switchgear, and feeder pillars, as well as ducting and ground works for power and comms cabling to the building and EV chargers.ZLC were chosen for the works following a quality-led competitive tendering process managed by Portsmouth City Council. ZLC are one of Portsmouth City Council’s Framework installers.
