At the end of October, the results of the applications for local community energy funding were announced. Of the 28 projects that applied, 16 Cornish community energy projects received a share of the total £300,000 grant funding from EnergyFund Cornwall.
One of the successful projects, the West Cornwall Solar and Heat Streets project, has recently been featured in the West Briton, after gaining support from Geoff Garbett, the local Hayle and Redruth Green Party candidate. Set up as a not-for profit community organisation, the project aims to install household PV or community heating systems by developing a Community Share Issue to fund the installation work.
“Our aim is to support the community move to a more environmentally sustainable way of living by developing clean, green, renewable energy generation, and to consequently improve the economic sustainability of the area through community ownership.” West Cornwall Community Renewables
We wish all the projects every success and will be following their progress in the year ahead.
